Thanks Philip, I have only found sudden death to be a problem with small ones; once plants get established, they seem to be OK.

Hi Linda

I used to have a Clematis amandii above the front door of my starter home. A most amazing plant and what I like is long before the flowers arrive, those fresh tendrils and rubbery fresh/soft growth appears.

The problem with amandii though, is that they can die all of a sudden without warning.

How nice of you to reply! Thank you. Fortunately our cat is too fat and lazy to take much interest. By the time she's waddled through the flap, the birds have flown off. And she can't climb onto the washing line anyway.

I always feel terribly torn when we have lovely birds in the garden, because we have a fiendish cat who loves to hunt. I end up chasing her away, which scares the birds!

I came across your site while searching for more information about my mower, but I always love a great do-it-yourself site. I'm going to bookmark the site and look forward to reading more articles.
